Job Title: Assistant Artistic Director

Job Category: Term/part-time/On call (as per project availability)

Area: Theatre, Youth program, Storytelling

Reports to: Artistic Director and Administrative Coordinator

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

African Stages requires someone to assist the Artistic Director in theatre productions, Youth Workshops forum theatre production and Storytelling workshops and sessions on a need by need basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Be able to perform as an artist in residence in schools and community centres

2. Be available for storytelling sessions as needed

3. Motivate staff to produce the highest quality of work while maintaining the organizations’ mission

4. Manage promotional and marketing materials

5. Make final production decisions.

6. Hire creative and production staff

7. Effective communicator and be able to work under deadlines

8. Exceptional interpersonal skills and incredibly creative

9. Maintain production budget

10. Assumes responsibility in the absence of staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Training and/or experience as a Performing Artist

2. Knowledge of African cultural Heritage is important.

3. Excellent organizational and time management skills

4. Ability to develop and deliver training programs and material

5. Able to make public presentations and facilitate groups

6. Computer literacy skills (including MS Windows, MS Word and the internet)

6. Ability to guide youth

7. confidentiality agreement, First Aid Certificate (an asset) and a clean criminal record check
